Science Lesson: Testing for Limestone

This week we have been studying rocks in science. I picked up Earth Science for Every Kid by Janice VanCleave. She has a whole series of books with easy experiments for kids! Love her books!

Yesterday I snuck the book onto my son's desk in the middle of his school books. He's been looking through it every since. Today he found one he really wanted to try. I love when this happens!

To demonstrate a positive test for limestone.
If it bubbles, it is limestone. See the tiny bubbles.

I asked what would happen if the shells sit in the vinegar? Will it eat through the shell or just stop bubbling and sit? We will let it sit undisturbed and see what happens! How interesting.

I wish everyday was creative like this!
